For this backlighting shot, I use the Center-Weighted Average metering mode to mainly expose shadows (the building), get more detail and quality on this critical areas, while the over-exposure on the sky will be easily handheld thanks to the great highlights (“to the right”) sensibility of the sensor. North Sydney

Back from half a day in Manly. The boat is going straight to Sydney, full West and I take this picture. Note the strange effect on the water surface caused by this little speedy boy (see below) — arf! —. I took the picture exposed on the right which means I under-expose it on post-prod. I also […]

What a chance to be there for this sunset in Sydney! Considering the high quantity of dark elements on the frame, I choose to expose at right. As you can notice if you do the comparison (see on the picture above), the non-adjusted version is clearly over-exposed. In fact, — as I explain it on quite […]

Anyway, I've to admit this picture have been a pain to post-process because of a so important contrast between highlights and shadows! Take a look to the non-processed one to get an idea…

Photography speaking, I don't like this picture. The ambient light was so awful that even after adjustments, the photo is still dull and boring. Anyway, I decided to share it with you because I found the contrast between old and new building pretty interesting and representative of Sydney.

This is the MLC Centre tower (228m high) as you can see it from thé AMP Tower (260m high) in Sydney. Obviously, the original shot was very dull because you have to take your pictures behind the glasses. I've made some basics adjustments to enhance contrast and reveal this natural vertical gradient made of cold […]

A 3 minutes long shot, taken few instants before the “Kölner Lichter Musical Fireworks”. A lots of illuminated boats comes slowly along the Rhine, where thousands of people are waiting for the show. On the non-processed picture, the sky as entirely dull and brown, so I adjusted it the way you can see above to […]

An impressive Amsterdam house facade, as many in this great city. I would like to thank you those bastards artists making such wonderful and original writing on the walls. I heard they was in fact trying to renovate facade. Please note in this case the obvious lack of paint, the artist only add enough for […]
